Best Groom's Response Ever!

20 Years ago "On behalf of my most beautiful wife, Sally and myself, I'd like to thank you all for being here today. Special thanks go to all those of you who have worked very hard to make and arrange this event and to those of you who have traveled very long and very far to be here today. You may have noticed, on the outside, Sally and I are very different and have different backgrounds; but on the inside, Sally and I are very alike. We can relate to how each other thinks and feels - which is why we are here today. So, on behalf of my wife Sally and myself, I would like to thank Allah for bringing two like souls together despite the outer appearances, and I would also like to thank both our families for accepting the new family member so kindly despite the outer differences." True then as it is now. The paper he is holding? My hubby's hand-written notes from 20 years ago: But you want wedding pictures right?  Outside the mosque, be...

Guess what I did a few weekends ago?

Maybe it's because I live in Texas? Not sure, but my husband and I decided to do something as a couple for our anniversary and we did a pistol class together! To be honest, I'd never held a gun before and I was literally shaking when I had to hold the gun and load the clip. You can't see it in the pictures, but my goodness I was nervous! Nervously trying to load the clip  It was a lot of fun, we learnt about the basics of handling a gun, how to stand, shoot, safety and a bit about the gun laws. Then, after the in-class session, we went out to the range to shoot. Real, actual guns! I ended up hitting the target, so that was more than I'd hoped for, so I was pretty pleased. My husband was very impressed with my results when we retrieved the target! We shot at 2 different distances,  7 feet and 15 feet. I ended up shooting a .22 and a 9-mm glock. Here I am posing for this shot, largely because with the eye and ear protection and the wind blowing my h...

15 years ago today...

15 years ago today, my husband took a leap of faith and married me. When we first met, he didn't even know where Trinidad was! I'd been working in information technology for long enough that I felt I needed to expand my horizons...perhaps a business degree somewhere overseas? I picked my graduate school because they offered a 1-year program (that is, a 2-year program compressed into one year), and I didn't think I could afford a 2-year overseas program, since I missed all the deadlines for scholarships - I had decided too late. They also had good scores for their teaching. After being out of school for a while, that seemed a good thing. I went into debt and headed off to England. My husband's graduate school had an exchange program with this University in England and as fate would have it, we landed in the same class doing much the same courses, with him sitting behind me. Here is a somewhat poorly scanned image from the year we met  - a class photo. No, we didn...
