Have you ever seen a child do a push up?

Kids doing pushups. It's hilarious. I'd put pictures but it would be of other people's children, so I am thinking that would not be so awesome. Instead I had my son pose. From my observations of those new to our karate class and warmup, the kids' pushups fall into a few different categories: The bottom in the air What not to do - pushup with bottom in the air That's what the top of the motion looks like when they do this. The bottom of the motion is closer to more what the start position should be! The hip on the floor In this one, the hips and top of thighs stay on the ground but the elbows bend. So that's good, the elbows bend? It's not correct, but at least the elbows bend? What not to do - pushup with the hip on the floor The head bob I don't have pictures of this one. Liam got tired of doing pushups incorrectly and was highly suspicious of me taking pictures so he declined to do more. "Mama are you going to show peo...

Flag Football

Lucas had his first flag football practice this week, and I picked him up afterwards. I got out of the car and sat on the field to see/hear better what was going on. It went something like this. Coach : " I need my Offense 1 to line up !" No action. Coach : " Can my Offense 1 boys line up here right now?!" One boy stands in the line, the other kids are milling around. Picture it. Coach : "IF THE 8 BOYS I JUST LINED UP DON'T KNOW WHO THEY ARE, WE'LL HAVE A PROBLEM!" The boys start nudging each other to figure out who was in Offense 1 and who was in Offense 2. Boy 1: "Does anybody else smell bar-b-que?" Me: Stifling giggles. Coach gives them some instructions, along the lines of don't chase the football, look for the players. They execute the play, all the kids chase the ball. Coach : "What did I tell you to do?" Boys: "Don't chase the ball." Coach : "So why did you do it?" Bo...

As the days go by...

As the days go by, I generally enjoy my time with my little buddies, but there are times of great frustrations as well. One of the simple things I miss is having breakfast in peace while reading the paper. Every morning is practically the same - I hustle to make breakfast for the baby while making mine and then when he is seated I get going on Lucas' all the while gobbling a few bites of my own in-between the table and the kitchen. When I finally do sit down, I have to contend with Lucas trying to tell me something while the baby is screaming at me because I didn't understand that particular inflection of "eh, eh". But no matter, I have to take pride in my newly-developed skills, e.g. being able to butter toast with one hand (while holding the baby) or ignoring the taste of lentil peas in the yogurt because the baby ate from it and I didn't want to dump it. The little one is now toddling around and he's taken to playing hide-and-seek. No, not the game. It...
