Yes, I'm still here in 2010

YD77UJ5R58XH
In case you were wondering, whatever happened to TheNewMe..well, I'll tell you.  My day job got in the way of my blogging.  The family consumed an inordinate amount of time and attention over the holidays, as evidenced by my Christmas wish list:

     1. Two consecutive nights of uninterrupted sleep
and oh yeah,
     2.  World peace.  Yes, me getting sleep is right up there with world peace...in my mind that is.

But, on with the New Year, Happy New Year, all the best...etc, etc.

On the subject of lists, here are my New Year's Resolutions:

Yes, you read that right - nothing.  I figure if there isn't a good 80% chance of me succeeding, I'm not going to make a list (you know, of things like exercise, eat well, don't sweat the small stuff, give more), hence the (blank) list.  I have also heard that when you write things down and tell other people, you are more likely to do it, so I am covering my bases - hence the (blank) list.  I'm still going to try and be a better person, I'm just going to be quiet about it.

I've also thought some about what my posts are going to be about this year, and for sure I have seen that the more humourous posts have seemed to be the most widely read.  Unfortunately, my holiday experiences didn't get the creative juices going, at least, none that's G-rated!

Best Groom's Response Ever!

20 Years ago "On behalf of my most beautiful wife, Sally and myself, I'd like to thank you all for being here today. Special thanks go to all those of you who have worked very hard to make and arrange this event and to those of you who have traveled very long and very far to be here today. You may have noticed, on the outside, Sally and I are very different and have different backgrounds; but on the inside, Sally and I are very alike. We can relate to how each other thinks and feels - which is why we are here today. So, on behalf of my wife Sally and myself, I would like to thank Allah for bringing two like souls together despite the outer appearances, and I would also like to thank both our families for accepting the new family member so kindly despite the outer differences." True then as it is now. The paper he is holding? My hubby's hand-written notes from 20 years ago: But you want wedding pictures right?  Outside the mosque, be...

Job Search2: Networking etiquette..

On which I have a few ideas.  As my husband keeps telling me, I won't get a job by spending hours in front of the computer submitting applications to online job postings.  The best use of any job-seeker's time is spent talking to friends and acquaintances and letting them know that you are looking for a job and what your skills and interests are. So here is what I found tricky about networking: How hard to push?  Working parents are busy, so if I asked a friend, who is a working parent, about a position I had seen at their company, do I ask a second time? How soon after? And what if there is another position - do I talk about that too?  If that friend is very enthusiastic about getting more information for me on a post then I hear nothing, what then?  Is it realistic to think they'll get back to me?  I find it difficult to broach the topic again.  I might ask a second time but for me there is no third time. What do I trade in return? In the net...

The Lowly Eyebrow Pencil

The eyebrow pencil Just a short post after some very heavy weeks. I recently went into the pharmacy looking for an eyebrow pencil - the kind of thing you would use if you wanted to fill in sparse eyebrows. I do have sparse eyebrows and eyebrow pencil is my friend. The first product I was shown was about $9. I immediately said that was the wrong kind of eyebrow pencil for me. The assistant next suggested that I could use eye shadow to "powder in" my eyebrows. Price $6. I felt I needed to clarify what exactly I needed, some black/dark brown thing I could use to pencil in my eyebrows (like maybe a 6B pencil, but for eyebrows. Would 6B even work?).  She then showed me something else that said "Eyebrow pencil" on the side. It was about 3/4 the length of a pencil and 1/2 the width and the other end of the pencil had a little brush attachment so you could brush your brows after you pencil them in. At $4 it was still too much for me. Finally I saw what I was ...
