Why I hate women drivers

Most recently, it is because they boxed me in where I was parked at the Science Center in Austin. So there were cars all around me and just enough space for my car to squeeze through the space between the 2 cars parked to my right, facing each other, provided I had another driver to watch me come out because it was so close.

Did I mention it was lunch time, and I had the 2 kids and we'd already spent almost 2 hours at the Science Center?  I'll let you think about that a moment.

My blood pressure went up when I saw what had happened.  It goes without saying that I wanted to cry.  Why would I think women drivers were involved? Well...I think only a woman would not notice that I would be boxed in and then park right in front of me so I couldn't get out.  Oblivious is what I call it.

In addition, they get on their cell phones as they are backing out of a parking lot. Me - I am terrified I hit something or worse, someone's child, so a parking lot is the one place I especially try to pay attention.  I try to have as many of my wits about me as I can, especially since as a woman driver, I already don't think too highly of my skills.

Women are also the ones who don't let you in when you need to switch lanes because they are too busy looking straight ahead...and nowhere else.  Since I am also a woman driver, I frequently miss the correct lane that I have to be in and need to switch, so I know what I am talking about.

I could go on, but I won't.  In fact, Lucas has now taken to muttering "Woman-driver", referring to any hazardous/silly driving he sees.  I think I've done enough to reinforce stereotypes.

If you do happen to be in the minority of females who consider themselves excellent, observant drivers and are offended by this post, remember, this post doesn't refer to you, but to every other female driver.

p.s. How did I manage my boxed-in situation? After much manoeuvering to get enough space so I could turn, a good Samaritan, (Thank you John!) was able to get the car out for me, with me directing.

I thought I'd be getting hate mail, but so far it's been very quiet guys!

What a story :-) It makes me think again of why I don't want to drive in NY, where it's so congested and such a pain to find parking.

Best Groom's Response Ever!

20 Years ago "On behalf of my most beautiful wife, Sally and myself, I'd like to thank you all for being here today. Special thanks go to all those of you who have worked very hard to make and arrange this event and to those of you who have traveled very long and very far to be here today. You may have noticed, on the outside, Sally and I are very different and have different backgrounds; but on the inside, Sally and I are very alike. We can relate to how each other thinks and feels - which is why we are here today. So, on behalf of my wife Sally and myself, I would like to thank Allah for bringing two like souls together despite the outer appearances, and I would also like to thank both our families for accepting the new family member so kindly despite the outer differences." True then as it is now. The paper he is holding? My hubby's hand-written notes from 20 years ago: But you want wedding pictures right?  Outside the mosque, be...

Job Search2: Networking etiquette..

On which I have a few ideas.  As my husband keeps telling me, I won't get a job by spending hours in front of the computer submitting applications to online job postings.  The best use of any job-seeker's time is spent talking to friends and acquaintances and letting them know that you are looking for a job and what your skills and interests are. So here is what I found tricky about networking: How hard to push?  Working parents are busy, so if I asked a friend, who is a working parent, about a position I had seen at their company, do I ask a second time? How soon after? And what if there is another position - do I talk about that too?  If that friend is very enthusiastic about getting more information for me on a post then I hear nothing, what then?  Is it realistic to think they'll get back to me?  I find it difficult to broach the topic again.  I might ask a second time but for me there is no third time. What do I trade in return? In the net...

The Lowly Eyebrow Pencil

The eyebrow pencil Just a short post after some very heavy weeks. I recently went into the pharmacy looking for an eyebrow pencil - the kind of thing you would use if you wanted to fill in sparse eyebrows. I do have sparse eyebrows and eyebrow pencil is my friend. The first product I was shown was about $9. I immediately said that was the wrong kind of eyebrow pencil for me. The assistant next suggested that I could use eye shadow to "powder in" my eyebrows. Price $6. I felt I needed to clarify what exactly I needed, some black/dark brown thing I could use to pencil in my eyebrows (like maybe a 6B pencil, but for eyebrows. Would 6B even work?).  She then showed me something else that said "Eyebrow pencil" on the side. It was about 3/4 the length of a pencil and 1/2 the width and the other end of the pencil had a little brush attachment so you could brush your brows after you pencil them in. At $4 it was still too much for me. Finally I saw what I was ...
