Fun Post! Smallville anyone?

It's been a long time since I've posted anything on my blog, so I thought I'd kick-start my new resolve by posting about something that I enjoy.  Yes, I am a Smallville fan. For those who are not familiar with Superman lore, Smallville is the name of the place that Superman grew up as the adopted child of Johnathon and Martha Kent.

The show, Smallville, tells the story of young Kal El on his way to becoming Superman.  It is in it's 10th and final season (yes, it's been running for 10 years), with the same lead actor (Tom Welling).  The premise of the show is very simple -
  • What was it like to be superhuman and grow up amongst humans?
  • What was it like to know you are different and to always have to hide your true self?
  • To know you are destined for great things, that you are "chosen" in some way, but not quite sure how to fulfill your destiny?
  • To be desperate to find your everlasting love, but not knowing whether or not you will recognise it?
  • To struggle against your own weaknesses, striving to attain the perfection you imagine for yourself?
  • To make the best decisions when the choices are not always easy or moral?


Endlessly fascinating for me, especially since many themes occur in everyday life.   I wanted to plug this show because while it has had some not-so-good episodes, this 10th season is just simply AWESOME!!  It deserves to go out with a large bang.  I am constantly surprised by how smart the television writing is.

So, take a look at the season 9 finale and the season 10 premier and keep on viewing!

Smallville has come such a long way since the first season. I quite enjoy watching it since being, ahem, introduced to it. The later season story lines are really cool, and it's sad that they don't get a chance to take them all the way, with this season being the last. And I do miss Lex!

There is still hope that Lex will be back, although there are not many episodes left and still no word on Michael Rosenbaum.

Re the story lines, I found the episode Luthor one of the best episodes of Season 10. It was very, very dark but so compelling, I was riveted...hmmmm I think I may need to go back and watch that episode again or maybe watch Crisis on Two Earths!

Week 20, Cycles 11,12 of 12: Not Happening

This week the oncologist felt that I had done enough chemo- I was not going to get Cycle 11 and Cycle 12.  I've talked before about the effects of the chemo on my fingers, but you know it is a sad situation when you knot your pyjama bottoms and then can't untie it to go to the bathroom. No more chemotherapy for me. Yay?  Yes, a bit of an anti-climax, but I still get to ring the "end-of-chemo" bell and get confetti thrown on me by my chemo nurses. My doctor also had in her hand the results of my post-chemotherapy MRI and it showed that there was a reduction in the tumour, it looked less dense than before and above all it looks like the volume of the tumour decreased by about 75%. Yay to that for sure! Considering I didn't feel that anything was changing I was very happy about the result. Next on my list: surgery. She said that although my blood counts are low in some areas, she felt that if I wanted to have surgery that day, I was well enough to do it. Me? We...

Talking with Lucas on climate change

This is my post for Blog Action Day . This is an annual event where bloggers everywhere in the world post about the same issue on the same day to spark discussion around an issue of global importance. This is part of a conversation I had with my 8-year old. Mama : Do you know what climate change means? Lucas : I think it means when it is like 90F and it is hot.   And the change? You'd think...

You'd think that the smoke coming from my ears and nose would be a sure hint to my children NOT to aggravate me.  And if not, then for sure the wide, crazed eyes and the clenched teeth should tell them something.  Maybe I need to write an instruction manual: "How to read your Mama". You'd think after being hurt by or punished for something two times already, there wouldn't be a third.  What can I say? It appears that some children need more experiences than others to cement learning. You'd think that if I'm taking them to do something they enjoy, I wouldn't have to say scream four times: "Change and get in the car!"  Obviously what they are doing at the present time is more "funner" than any planned activity.
