Part-time, flexible schedule, work-from-home...?

This is my first foray into the blogosphere, and for those of you who may actually read this, I am the CEO of my family's Human Capital. What does that mean? Well, I am a stay-at-home mom..., but CEO sounds so much more impressive..and I AM in charge of my kids development (not to mention my husband's)...so it makes sense?

But onwards, back to the part-time, flexible schedule, work-from-home job offer. Having left a successful career to be at home full-time with a 1-year old and a 7-year old, I certainly didn't think I would say "thanks, but no thanks" to such an opportunity... a chance to keep my toe in the professional world (not to mention talk to adults!)

Hmmm...On the one side, I am teaching my 1-year old about his physical world - turning the light switch on and off (10 mins), opening and closing the front door and going through it (20 mins), and on the other...work, income, personal/professional satisfaction.....

Naaaah! Strangely (?) up until the time I had an actual offer, the thought of such working flexibility was attractive to me. However, since I have the option to work or not, I exercised it.

The thought of having to put the baby to bed, then switch to work mode, get on the phone/laptop, with one eye/ear on the baby monitor and the other on my work..well, it sounded a trifle unpleasant. Of course I could get day-care part-time so I can work, but there's no fun in that.

Now..getting daycare so I can read and eat bon bons, now that is something I could get interested in.

What is your 'bread & butter' conversation?

I am anxious to get back to the playgroups with my Moms group, and talk with some of the other moms because I want to know what they talk to their husbands about at the end of the day. If I were to truly tell my husband what goes on with my day? Well, the conversation would be inane and irrelevant. Gunnar: "How was your day honey?" Big smile. Me: "You know the usual. Lucas got up late this morning and was crabby because he didn't have enough time to play before breakfast and Liam pulled off my tiny earring, you know, the one I was so excited about getting because I thought he wouldn't notice it, and I could wear earrings again? Anyways, he pulled it off, and I grabbed it from him and set it down so I could deal with him appropriately, and I forgot about it, but when I went back to look for it I couldn't find it. It might have gotten wiped off the table when I was cleaning, so I spent part of the day sifting through the garbage looking for it, then I looked ...

Week 4 - Part 1, Fredericksburg

And here are my pictures from Fredericksburg! A bit different than you may have expected. We walked around the National Museum of the Pacific, but hardly had the chance to look in much detail (antsy 3-year old took care of that).   My husband's conclusion was while there may be some things that are German (like on the menu), some are definitely not.  But perhaps they were when the Fredericksburg immigrants moved there?  Immigrants do cling to what they know and bring those with them, while their home country evolves. Anyways, we had fun walking around and relaxing.  My dad didn't get a chance to do too much (G and I took the time to run away and put my cousin in charge of the boys and my dad).  So we had a break.  We had plans to do more sight-seeing on our way back, but we (me and G) were too tired to try. Tuesday 28th June : Cycle 2.  After checking my blood counts, I was able to get cycle 2 - Yaay!  My appointment was 9:30 am, and I ...

Fitness Photo Shoot

Fitness after stage III breast cancer Plank on ball in silhouette Why a fitness shoot? I am not a fitness model, nor am I ripped like one, but I wanted to do a fitness shoot for a few different reasons: 1. As a reminder of how far I have come At the 5-year anniversary of my diagnosis of stage III breast cancer, it seemed a good time to remind myself how far I have come since I went through the trauma of diagnosis and treatment. That no matter how low I felt at the time, I came through it. Not all my sisters made it and many are still struggling today (shout out to my IV-leagers - those living with stage IV,  EVERY DAY). 2. As a reminder of how much the body can do It is a moment for me to acknowledge that while there are things I still cannot do, there are things I could not do when I first started lifting weights, that I can do now and THAT is amazing to me. When I first started weight lifting maybe I could do shoulder presses with 7.5 lbs, now I can do more t...
