Week 11 - Cycle 2 of 12

Another late post, so this would be for last week.

With this drug I seem to be doing better, which is a relief, I think it is also very reassuring for the kids to know how  I am doing and they can see I have more energy to boss them around and scold them and play and read to them, but mostly the other things.

I do have some slightly different side-effects which I am managing but nothing significant. One downside of the reduced feeling of exhaustion is that I am having more difficulty going back to sleep when I wake up in the night..so I am thinking I might have to break the seal on the sleeping pills.

Other than that so far so good. I did have one thing that I didn't post on the prior week's message on the first treatment. Because my red blood count is low, I had another injection to boost me up.  That was THE MOST PAINFUL INJECTION I have ever had, and I've had a few. And since the dosage I needed did not come in one syringe, I had to get TWO to make the correct dosage.

But so far so good, I am hoping that I can feel improvements as I go along further in the treatment.

Glad to hear that you're doing better on this drug. I hope there are no more painful injections coming your way (that sounded awful!) and that the sleep situation improves. Thank you again for keeping us up to date.

Hello Savi, Leah and Kev -

I am hanging in there! I did break the seal on the sleeping pill and my expert hubby has advised me that since I don't have trouble falling asleep..even with the lights on...and a book in my hand, then I should get a pill that works more on keeping me asleep.

Kev - funny thing is, I distinctly recall wondering if I'd have enough to write about when I started blogging - funny how things work.

I'm glad to hear that you are doing well. My cousin died of breast cancer two years ago. In my heart I believe that inability to forgive her husband for the pain he caused her, coupled with her poor diet and lack of exercise contributed to her disease.

You seem to be doing really well. What diet are you currently following? Did you make any changes to your lifestyle after you found out you had breast cancer?

Keep us up to date.

Hello Carol,

I am sorry to hear about your loss.

Shortly before I was diagnosed we were eating more vegetarian and I was exercising more. That has been derailed somewhat because of the effects of chemo (I've basically have to eat whatever I can stomach and I've been too tired to exercise). Once I am done, we will do much more of vegetarian and low glycemic diet (high on fruits and vegetables, low on processed foods). And of course go into exercise mode again.

In addition, I will be loading up on antioxidants (something I have to be careful about doing now since it interferes with the chemo drugs).

There is a lot of information about the above, 'the cancer diet' or variations of it, but it is in fact the way everybody should be eating.

Take care,

What is your 'bread & butter' conversation?

I am anxious to get back to the playgroups with my Moms group, and talk with some of the other moms because I want to know what they talk to their husbands about at the end of the day. If I were to truly tell my husband what goes on with my day? Well, the conversation would be inane and irrelevant. Gunnar: "How was your day honey?" Big smile. Me: "You know the usual. Lucas got up late this morning and was crabby because he didn't have enough time to play before breakfast and Liam pulled off my tiny earring, you know, the one I was so excited about getting because I thought he wouldn't notice it, and I could wear earrings again? Anyways, he pulled it off, and I grabbed it from him and set it down so I could deal with him appropriately, and I forgot about it, but when I went back to look for it I couldn't find it. It might have gotten wiped off the table when I was cleaning, so I spent part of the day sifting through the garbage looking for it, then I looked ...

Fitness Photo Shoot

Fitness after stage III breast cancer Plank on ball in silhouette Why a fitness shoot? I am not a fitness model, nor am I ripped like one, but I wanted to do a fitness shoot for a few different reasons: 1. As a reminder of how far I have come At the 5-year anniversary of my diagnosis of stage III breast cancer, it seemed a good time to remind myself how far I have come since I went through the trauma of diagnosis and treatment. That no matter how low I felt at the time, I came through it. Not all my sisters made it and many are still struggling today (shout out to my IV-leagers - those living with stage IV,  EVERY DAY). 2. As a reminder of how much the body can do It is a moment for me to acknowledge that while there are things I still cannot do, there are things I could not do when I first started lifting weights, that I can do now and THAT is amazing to me. When I first started weight lifting maybe I could do shoulder presses with 7.5 lbs, now I can do more t...

Week 4 - Part 1, Fredericksburg

And here are my pictures from Fredericksburg! A bit different than you may have expected. We walked around the National Museum of the Pacific, but hardly had the chance to look in much detail (antsy 3-year old took care of that).   My husband's conclusion was while there may be some things that are German (like on the menu), some are definitely not.  But perhaps they were when the Fredericksburg immigrants moved there?  Immigrants do cling to what they know and bring those with them, while their home country evolves. Anyways, we had fun walking around and relaxing.  My dad didn't get a chance to do too much (G and I took the time to run away and put my cousin in charge of the boys and my dad).  So we had a break.  We had plans to do more sight-seeing on our way back, but we (me and G) were too tired to try. Tuesday 28th June : Cycle 2.  After checking my blood counts, I was able to get cycle 2 - Yaay!  My appointment was 9:30 am, and I ...
